About Us

Made under one roof.

Our mission is simple: set the standard for what "Made in USA" means today.

US Standard Apparel was founded on the belief that American craftsmanship still matters. What began as a trusted supplier for leading streetwear labels has evolved into a brand in its own right — one that honors the roots of American athletic culture through refined basics, made entirely under one roof in Los Angeles.

That roof isn't just where production happens. It's where creativity, culture, and community intersect to shape the next generation of American basics. We don't chase trends or shortcuts — we trust in quality, simplicity, and the enduring value of a well-made garment: heavy jersey, garment-washed, 100% American cotton, built to last.

Our Story

USSA traces back to Sean Sassounian, who founded SAS Textiles in 1993 while studying business at USC. He'd grown up around the trade, helping his father sell imported yarns from Brazil, and started the company with a knitting partner since, as he puts it, he "had no idea what knitting was all about." That partnership grew into a 140,000-square-foot circular knitting operation in Vernon, California — one of the largest on the West Coast, supplying fabric to Amiri, John Elliott, YEEZY, and other US-produced labels for over three decades.

In 2018, Sean co-founded US Standard Apparel, taking that manufacturing knowledge and building something of his own. USSA grew out of that vision — a brand backed by the same fabric development and knitting capabilities behind SAS Textiles' name.

Private Label & Wholesale

Our history is why our private label and wholesale programs work differently than most. We're not a cut-and-sew shop that sources fabric from wherever's available — we're a vertically integrated manufacturer with 30 years of textile expertise and 150 knitting machines running in-house. We control every step of your production, from yarn and fabric development through patternmaking, grading, cutting, sewing, and finishing, without handing your project off to outside suppliers. The result is tighter quality control, faster turnaround, and a product that matches your sample run after run.

Fabric Development. Work from our proprietary fabric library — baby rib, 2x1 rib, vintage jersey, modern fleece, ultra-heavy fleece — or develop something specific to your brand. Every fabric is produced in-house from combed ring-spun cotton and recycled yarns.

Pattern & Tech Development. Our in-house pattern and tech team builds garments engineered for your fabric, your fit, and your production process, accounting for stretch, shrinkage, and wash behavior — not just measurements on a page.

Sampling. We produce proto and fit samples before anything goes to bulk. Multiple rounds are normal — we'd rather get it right than rush it.

Grading. Once your base size is approved, we grade into your full size run so fit stays proportional across every size.

Cut, Sew & Finish. All production happens under one roof in Vernon, California. No overseas components, no subcontracted finishing. What you approve in sample is what you get in production.

Custom Labeling & Packaging. Neck labels, woven labels, hang tags, polybag packaging — we can accommodate your brand's requirements so garments are shelf-ready when they leave our facility.

We partner with streetwear brands, basics labels, decorators, and private label programs that are serious about product quality. We're not the right fit for every project, but if you're building something you want to last, we'd like to hear about it.

If you're building something and want a partner who knows the craft, get in touch or apply for a wholesale account.
